VW CAR PARTS : I can't cite anything, but given the historic connections between VW andPorsche (the original VW, the Beetle, was designed by Ferdinand Porschewho later founded Porsche) and the Porsche business model it is verylikely that many same parts are used in Skodas and Porsches. Rememberthat Skoda is a daughter of VW, and that Porsche makes a great part ofits turnover by building or designing carparts for other companies (esp.Audi, another daughter of VW). There surely is some giving and takingbetween both sides - some Porsche parts in Skodas and some Skoda partsin Porsches. Probably, though, mainly third party parts that are used incars of both companies. ;)Wrong. Porsche is in fact loosely controlled by VW, but not nearly to theextent you are thinking of. Porsche is more like a independent car company inthe fashion of Lamborghini (as is to Audi). I'd venture to say the only Porschethat shares parts with any VW product is the Cayenne to the Toureg (the SUV's).
VW CAR PARTS : Volkswagen's Skoda and SEAT divisions as well as WV-badged cars make up VW'slower end of the segment. The other side of the VW empire is Audi and Lambo ofcourse. Porsche develops its own engines, competes in its own racing programs, buildsits own race cars, and has its own dealership network across the world. Audi is hardly a daughter of VW. They share few parts, but it is clear cut thatthey are two different divisions with different ambitions. Of course. I didn't say they were controlled by anybody. But they worktogether with other car manufacturers and they try to reduce costs wherethey can. So, of course they use parts that are used by othermanufacturers, too - they are cheaper because of the higher number theyare produced in and good enough. You don't need to make your own screwsto build a unique car, you know? ;)
VW CAR PARTS : And engines for other companies. And other things for other companies.IIRC they even desgin things that have nothing to do with cars for othercompanies or projects. They even build cars and car parts for othercompanies. IIRC the Audi TT was or is built there. Building and sellingtheir own cars is only one part of their business model.Of course - one has to sell the cars according to their image. Andselling Porsches alongsides VWs would not exactly fit into that. ;)I understand that, sure they use VW bolts, clips, other non-Porsche unique carparts, etc on their cars. This is not the point I'm trying to make here. Yes, which has nothing to do with Porsche building its own sports cars.
VW CAR PARTS : Hey All. I don't often post here, though I read the group alot. Ijust purchased my 8th VW, this time a MAJOR project car. It is an 82VW Rabbit, and I need to put an engine in it. Am I better off lookingat junkyards, or should I consider brand new? Can newer dieselengines be put in its place? (maybe from a golf or something?).Also, can anyone tell me some good places for VW parts, both interiorand exterior? I've always had luck at junkyards, but they're reallydrying up around here. It alsocame with the one time head bolts. It does not have hydrolic lifters, theywere on the early 86 and up models. So if you get parts you need to becarefull. What is wrong with your engine? They will go about 300k miles andthen they usally throw a rod through the front of the block. But if you gotone and rebuilt it then it should last. The best online vw car parts placeI've found is I've noticed they are drying up inthe yards also but it runns in spurts, maybe next time you'll be there thewhole day. I've got a vanagon and most times nothing but others I hit thejackpot.Before putting lotts of money into a 82 model car ask your self how good thebody and interior is. If it's a rust bucket then patch it up and drive ittill it dies but if it's very clean then look around at some of the placesthat have the 1900cc engines in long blocks. They got them in Canada andbut they wern't in the US. My 84 Vanagon has no rust so I don't feel badabout putting a entire new exhaust for $411 including cat on it while I'mputting a $140 gasket set on the heads. (I'm having lots of fun!)
