USED HONDA CAR PARTS : If they like it, good on them. Who am I to criticize what other people like?Also, who ever said that they're trying to get their cars looking and performinglike a Ferrari? It's also about personalisation - making a car different fromall the others on the road.And, before you criticize that comment as attention seeking how many people,including yourself can honestly say that they don't like ANY attention? No-one.Ferrari was just an example, but it is completely obvious that these peopleare trying to make their cars look like some super machine, some expensivesuper machine. I was mainly criticizing the people who rice up their carsand add little or no performance, but try to give the impression that theydo. I was merely expressing my opinion about supe ups in general, but forthose that want to put performance upgrades, that is totally fine, I wasn'tcriticizing those that put actual performance enhancing upgrades, I was juststating that I wouldn't personally do it, but if others do that is just fine(just an opinion). As far as attention goes, it all depends on theattention you want to get, obviously these people want to get attention withthe intent to impress others. But as I was saying, these ridiculous ricedup cars do not really impress. Their intentions do not agree with theirresults. If they really wanted to impress, then they should get a hotsports car. For example, think about the VW Beetle, yes it gets attention,however all of it is not positive attention, it just stands out, but manythink it is ugly. A riced up Honda is far worse than the Beetle, cuz somepeople actually think the Beetle looks cute. As for a Ferrari, it is quitesimply impressive to most, and gets the respect of most people out there.You see its like this, lets say you have and old cheap Honda , it has a loudexhaust noise, you play the music real loud with your super woofers. Itcatches peoples attention, acutally it catches their ear drums, but anywaysthey look over (so the person with the Honda achieved the first step), whenthey look over they see a piece of junk Honda and they think wonder why theywant to get attention when they have nothing to show for it, so then theyjust ignore it. Whereas if you had a Ferrari, and you played the musicloud, they turn their heads and then they stare at it as they drool. Ipersonally wouldn't want to get attention if I had nothing to show for it,nothing to impress with.
USED HONDA CAR PARTS : Unfortunately, I've been through four in just the past three years. Allof my local friends and co-workers seem to depend on relatives ("mysister's brother-in-law Pete") for their car repairs, which hasn't beena reliable source for good mechanics. Evidently you have to be arelative to get reliable service from these folks. Recommendations fromonline sources have had about the same track record. So the best I'mhoping for is "not actively trying to cheat me". I recently read a fascinating article, which said that only 44% ofvisits to mechanics resulted in satisfactory repairs, and the servicewas only considered "fair and competent" 28% of the time. This wasrepeated several times, in both the U.S. and Canada, and gave almostexactly the same percentages. This was in the late 80's/early 90's butI don't think things have changed significantly.

How's that for adisclaimer?New car vs Old car. My preference has always been for old car.When I was a kid my mom and dad had possibly the worlds greatestauto mechanic. Pete. Pete was the kind of guy that fixed theproblem, and only the problem right the first time. I do recallmy dad saying that in twenty years there was one go-back.Funny story; One friday eve, dad is home, just having retrievedthe plymouth from Pete's shop and griping that it had to go backbecause it was not running right. I listened, told him I wouldtake a look and to give me the keys. "You can't fix it." "Giveme the KEYS!"
USED HONDA CAR PARTS : I took the keys, already having divined that the problem must bea dis-connected spark plug wire. I started the car and sureenough the engine was rocking on it's motor mounts. I shut theengine off, openened the hood and replaced the missing plug wireconnection. OF course the car ran fine.Shut off the car, close the hood and head inside to have a bitof fun with the old man.I proudly walked into the kitchen, tossed him the keys andproclaimed that it was fixed."What was the problem?""Cost you five bucks to find out!"He glares at me, few minutes pass."What was the problem?""Cost you FIVE BUCKS to find out!"Few more minutes pass, and he reaches for his wallet, taking outa five dollar bill, snapping it between his fingers foremphasis. Pop lays the five on the kitchen table.
USED HONDA CAR PARTS : If you drive a Bus like an MR2, yah, it's not gonna last you verylong. My '63 bus had 250,000 miles on it before the 1500 enginedecided to lose pressure in cylinder #3. That's without rebuilds,valve jobs, anything but basic maintenance and regular oil changes(I do mine every 1500 to 2000 miles).I admit that's way above the average life--Air-coolies seem to havea self-destruct timer set for 100k, and my '76 Westphalia setupfollowed that pattern almost to the mile. Around Seattle, a completerebuild on a standard VW engine can run as low as $400, depending onhow much of the work you do yourself.Unfortunately, my '76 has anything but a standard engine. This long-stroke, high-compression, computerized, fuel-injected 2000cc machinationis gonna run me at least $1300. But I couldn't get anything near asnice for under $4500 if I was really lucky (and more likely $7k).
