TOYOTA CAR PARTS : Request any techs please give me a suitable sub for FIPG gasket sealer formy Tacoma. The dealer is 95miles away & I beleive there is a suitable sub probably available at theregular auto suppliers so I won't have to make a 200 mile trip to get someequivalent sealer. Those in the know such as MD tech & a few others pleaseadvise what is ok to use from lets say permatex, 3m or other sources. SinceI have no knowledge of the composition of fipg any cross referencing at thesites blows my mind away & leaves me wondering is fipgsilicone based,RTV etc etc. There are so many gasket sealants available formany applications that it becomes hard to decide what to use.What I'm askingis as close a sub to fipg that is known to the techswho have used a comparable sealant & would not hesitate to reccomend it inplace of fipg.
TOYOTA CAR PARTS : FIPG is RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) and can be gotten from any parts stove. TOYOTA CAR PARTS : Jethro: Hope you don't mind me contacting you this way butI have a specialapplication & am considering possibilities to correctan oil leak. The application is one on my engine oil cooler (old aluminumcasting thick & bulky with end flanges). This has replaced3 each B&M conventional oil coolers which have cracked due to hot thermalspikes of hotoil to them at different intervals due tomy application. This all is not making sense to you unless you understandthat I have a thermo switched ,fine filtration &oil cooled paralell oil system. May I suggest you go to Google to see what Ihave to get an idea on this. WARNINGthis is quite lengthy & may be not of interest to you & may not even careabout it. So go to Google & search Donajkowski ifthis application could become clearer to you. Otherwise I will simply tryto explain it without you having to understand myapplication if you don't want to fully need to know it. I have triedconvential gaskets many types & times. Seems to temporarily fixseeping but due to thermal flex etc the seeps always returns at the endflanges that are screwed on the cooler assembly.Looking for the best oil resistant, high thermaly stable, tacky & flexableform in place gasket sealant that may work. It must also be readilyavailable since the dealer is far away. The Toyota FIPG seemed like it wouldwork so I was asking what to use thatI could get that was really a substitute or about the same as Toyota FIPG.There are many types of sealants, anerobic, sensor safe RTV etc etc. Youwent thru all this in your reply to forum but you never said what is theclosest to Toyota FIPG if you do knowthat there is one that is a good sub. for it. I have been thinkingof a red tacky stuff that is high temp, tacky & remainsflexable but it isn't readily available at parts stores. Is the Toyota FIPGlike the stuff I just described like being tacky, temp resistant& remains flexable ? I'm tired of fabricating end flange conventionalgaskets for the cooler & feel there is a sealant to fix it.
TOYOTA CAR PARTS : (fwd) Vietnam to temporarily suspend increased tariffs on imported car parts AP - Fri Dec 27,12:33 AM ET HANOI, Vietnam - Apparently bowing to pressure from foreign carmakers,Vietnam's Ministry of Finance on Friday decided to indefinitely suspend newtariffs on imported car parts. Finance Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung signed a decision to postpone until furthernotice an earlier plan to double tariffs on imported car parts beginning Jan.1, according to an official in the ministry's general tax department. "The minister sees some difficulties the carmakers could face when implementingthe decision," the official said on condition of anonymity. However, Vietnam will be pushing auto manufacturers to increase their usage oflocal car parts, the official added. "If carmakers fail to implement their commitment on localization program, theministry will propose to the government to withdraw their investment licenses,"she said.
TOYOTA CAR PARTS : Foreign automakers with assembly operations in Vietnam lauded Friday'sdecision, which came one week after representatives from Toyota, Daewoo, andFord met with Vietnamese officials to urge a reversal in the tariffs. "It's good news for us," said Nguyen Tam, a spokeswoman for Toyota Motor Co.,which heads up the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association, a group thatrepresents the country's 11 foreign carmakers. The Dec. 4 decision by the Ministry of Finance would have doubled the tariff onimported car parts to 40 percent in January, followed by a further increase to70 percent by 2004 — a move that foreign manufacturers said would killedtheir fledgling operations here. The government had initially argued that the move was necessary to forcecarmakers to increase their usage of local parts, which now only account forfive percent to 10 percent of the total.
