SPORTS CAR PARTS : While looking for bumbers for my 66 ghia I stumbled across an advert for "alime green 71 VW sports car in good condition" for sale as is ( meaning notrunning...for 8 years). Well it wasn't a ghia , it was a Porsche - VW 914!So now , instead of T4ing my ghia I'm learning the ins and outs of amid-engined money pit.My question is this..what exactly is the difference between the 914 engineand the late model bus/411 engine? CLutch? Flywheel? any help will beappreciated.When I rebuilt my 914 2.0 the biggest difference was the valve size.The flywheel is different, to fit the Porsche tranny, and the clutch matchesthe flywheel.The fuel injection system is different too. D-Jet instead of L-Jet or viceversa. Since it's a 71 it would probably be the 1.7L version, so the headswould be a VW part, and the whole engine is pretty much identical to the1.7L bus engine, with minor differences in cooling tin, camshaft, and fuelsystem. I think the 71 bus engine was dual carbed. All US 914s werefactory injection, so if it's carbed then someone has swapped it out, whichcan be both good and bad.
