So far I've only heard about problems with EMS on heavy goodsvehicles, nothing on car engines (so far? anyone know different?). In thevery unlikely event you have an EMS and you want reassurance then checkwith it's manufacturer about y2k.But! There if you are in the UK, and your car runs on leaded petrol thenyou will either have to get it converted to unleaded, or change your car,before the first week (3rd?) January 2000, as this is the date when leadedpetrol will finally be phased out of the UK.

As soon as it is running I'll start to looking at getting it onunleaded fuel via the various "lead substitute" products on the market (anda possible tweak to the timing), this should be all I'll need to keepmotoring.One thing I have found is that it is getting more difficult to find thespare parts for my car. With computer year 2000 problem this will get muchworse as I expect a lot of the small specialist suppliers we rely on forspare parts will probably go under when we hit recession via y2k. I urgeall owners of older and classic cars to buy up lots of spare parts now inorder to keep there cars running post 2000.

I did recall a thread which stated categorically that there was a definiteproblem with a certain EMS, however, I've just done some digging aroundDejaNews and it appears to have been a late April Fool which was postedhere a few weeks ago (Subject : Eagle Talon ECU has y2k bug). A veryconvincing one, though. Reading it again it still seems very plausible.
