If you'resmart, you learn from the mistakes of others....if not..............I admit, the response was a tad bit rude.....but true,nonetheless.........when i speak ill of the Le Car it is becuase speak from experience; my sister bought one in '77 because she thought it was "cute" and she wanted something with goodgas milage. Also, it was cheaper than a VW rabbit.
RENAULT CAR PARTS : however, any money she saved in initial cost and gaswas more than made up for in repair costs. i won't boreyou with the litany of repairs that Le Car needed in the4 yrs it was on the road, but i assure you it was substantial.in addition to the horrible reliability of the car, it was squirely in bad weather, the canvas top leaked like asieve and it started to show signs of rust after the secondNYC winter.Add to that the apathetic attitude of the Renault servicedepartment (at a dealership that also sold Fiats and Subaus)and it's no wonder that Renaults are no longer imported into the U.S.If my respose came across as rude, well, i apoligize to anyonei may have offended. Well, all well and good, and sharing experiences is a good thing.I have had two Renault R5's (the proper term for the Le Car) andboth were fine, economical, fun, good handling, distinctive littlecars, albeit quite slow. However, being slow is sometimes an advantageas one can redline the squirrel cage without having to worryabout a light show in the rear view mirror. ;-)

RENAULT CAR PARTS : While Renault has a bad reputation I must say mine has been a bargain. I purchased it in '81 in Pennsylvania, drove it cross country and havebeen using it as a daily driver ever since. Done my best to thrash itbut it still meets california smog and he only mechanical work I've doneon it has been quasi regular tune ups, oil changes, and tires and nowmuffler #2.Even though all my other cars/trucks are 50's modle domestics and Idon't have any desire to own another Renault particularly but I can'tbad mouth them.Believe it or shit, but I have some carb rebuild kits for these "fine" cars-also for Pewjoe (Peugeot) some British trash as well as some other derelict foreign cars. Bought a load of them from a car parts store that went out of business. They're 99% Beck Arnley brand. Would like to sell them as a lot only. Retail is something like $2,000, but will take FAR less. RENAULT CAR PARTS : I have a 1983 Renault Fuego. I bought this car for $50.00, and it only has63,000 miles on it. The previous owner said it quit running and couldn'tfind anyone to work on it. I got it running again, but have had extremedifficulty getting parts for this critter. Is there anyone out there whoknows of a company that may still supply parts for this auto? I don't meancommon items like spark plugs, etc., but things like throttle cables,various sensors and the like. Thanks in advance for your help.Sorry to rain on your parade but my limited experiences with Renuualtsis that they are among the most difficult cars I've encountered in termsof parts availability. I once tried to get engine parts for a LeCar andeven though the cars were still being imported, it was almostimpossible. And as if that weren't enough when I finally did find partsthey were so expensive as to be beyond belief. For example a dealerquoted me $750.00 for a set of rods (available only in a set). Actuallyif I were to try to service one of these cars, I would learn to speakFrench and plan a trip.....Good Luck!!!!!
