PART OF CAR : O.K. I'll try to keep this short. I've always used cycle oil in my '95Suzuki Katana 750. My last oil change, I used Specto oil. When I nextneeded service, a local shop recommended by a friend stated that Spectro wasknown to cause problems, and just use regular Castrol car oil for next oilchange. What do you think? I'm still fuzzy on the benefits of Castor vs.Synthetics vs. Blends. Any help on that issue would also be appreciated.Secondly, when I just went to buy a filter (12 stinkin' dollars!) theservice counter clerk stated that Golden Spectro was great oil. I told himabout what I was told about Spectro oil, he said he thought that GoldenSpectro and Spectro are two different companies. Is that correct? Anyonehave thoughts on either oils?
PART OF CAR : Read your owners manual. Select an oil that conforms to those specs. Then gofor a ride, that always works. Use an OEM filter as well. Some others havebeen known to fail. 1. Do NOT use regular car oil. Modern car oils contain various additives toimprove a car's gas mileage, and are not intended for use in an engine where thetranny, engine and clucth share the same oil. 2. Specro and Golden Spectro are made by the same company; just look at thelabel on the back. 3. The only diference between the two is that the "Golden" line is synthetic;the non-Golden stuff is not.Actually, Golden Spectro is synthetic blend, not full synthetic.You may use regular car oil. The new rating, SJ, permits the addition ofadditives (friction modifiers) to improve mileage. But, that will beindicated on the bottle and is typically not found in 10w-40 oils andheavier. Yamalube for instance (a motorcycle oil) is SJ rated, but saysdoes not include friction modifiers. Car oils may say "Energy Saving" orsomething like that, but again, these are typically light oils you would notuse in a bike anyway. Look at the lables on a bottle of 5W-30 and 10w-40 orbetter. You should see a difference pertaining to energy savings orconservation. A regular, good quality car oil, CHANGED REGULARLY, willsuffice. Synthetics can offer some additional protection, but engine lifeshould be long even with average oil.
