But one standout is the Hemi Cuda, not to be confused with an ordinaryPlymouth Barracuda. Convertible Barracudas are relatively common, evenones made during the 1971 model year. The name Cuda -- without thefirst two syllables -- was reserved for cars with higher outputengines. The name "Hemi" comes from the car's engine, named for itshemispherical combustion chambers.

I know Ford is doing nice thingsat the moment with their heritage but Ford also owns Jaguar which usedto have slick inline sixes and fast v12's. Now Ford has put a 2.0(yes, 2.0) diesel engine (yes diesel engine) in a Jag. My 1997 Dodge Stratus now overpowers a Jag. Big time even.Why did Ford do it ? Easy, a diesel engined car will big in Europe.
MUSCLE CAR PARTS : There is nothing practical about a 9,000 lb vehicle built out of3,000 lb vehicle parts. Motorhomes are built out of car parts and buses (as opposed to schoolbuses)are built out of bus parts. A 50 year old bus with a 6-71 andfour speed that hasn't been hard hit, burned, or rotted to death stillhas more miles to go than a brand new motorhome most of the time.Motorhomes are largely designed for old people to buy when they retireand to be junked when they die whereas a bus might live 40 to 80 yearsin commercial charter service. In conversion service they could gotwice that, if in 120 years people are still driving around on roadsin vehicles and some fuel a screaming Jimmy can eat is available it'ssafe to say you will see 4102s and MC-7's still running around.
MUSCLE CAR PARTS : Parts, hard parts, are available for most American cars postwar to1970s largely because of drag racing, muscle car and street rodpeople. Most of these are common to many motorhomes. Hard parts arealso available for most MCI, Eagle, and GM coaches because enough ofthem are in service. You wont usually find them at your local discountparts store, but on a bus if you maintain it properly and carry asmall parts box with you you won't need to buy them on the road. Youare just as likely to get stuck in a small town over a holiday weekendin a car-any car,late model or old-over a part as in a bus. Furtherbus mechanics and parts people usually know what they are doing,unlike car machanics. Later coaches are indeed a better proposition and that's why a decentshell is going to set you back ten to thirty thousand dollars. You getwhat you pay for. On the other hand, a first rate conversion can, ifyou put in some sweat equity and get a good buy on a shell, go up invalue over the years. There's always some band or company that coulduse a clean MC8 with a nice head and shower, bunks and seats and afresh electronic 6V92T.
