LEXUS CAR PARTS : Guess what, I have even talked to some of the guys about this car.Everything I've heard is good. I have never said otherwise. I didsay I don't like the look, but that is just my personal opinion.I don't know if they even know that there is such a thing as aGS400. Of course, I'm not a country club member.I like how you switched cars here. The GS40 may be a great sportssedan, but WE WERE discussing the LS400, which is FAR from a"hard-on" car in ANY way.I am sure it is, but we were discussing the LS400, NOT the GS400.No, my assertation was about the older Lexus cars and their owners.I know of no perforance LS400 people. I would guess that there aresome enthusiasts who own the SC400...You are changing what I said about the LS400, and assuming that Imeant this to cover the GS400 also.
LEXUS CAR PARTS : I think I'm getting screwed by the dealer, but I don't know how toprove it.On Saturday I brought the Lexus GS300 into the dealer, because thecheck engine light is on. The service person said that it's going totake 20 minutes to find the problem. One hour later the serviceperson said that everything was fine, but fortunately I got to speakwith the mechanic. He said that he didn't have enough time to do aproper diagnostic, and that there's something wrong with the TPS area. He reset the chip and that if there's still a problem then the checkengine light should come on after 2 drives.I then told the service person when he was walking me to the cashier. He said that he needs to talk with the mechanic and came back tellingme that I need to replace the TPS sensor. (The cost is about $470) Iasked him if they should do a diagnostic to make sure that it's reallythe sensor that broken. He then looked me straight in the eye andsaid, "the TPS Sensor needs to be replaced." I then agreed and askedhim if he was going to let me take a car. (they have a policy ofrenting you a car if the service is over an one hour and thirtyminutes.) He said that he can't because it's only going to takethirty minutes. I said fine, I'll ask someone to get me.
LEXUS CAR PARTS : After thinking about it, I knew that he was lying to me and that Ishould just go to another dealer/mechanic. I was on my way ofcancelling the service and ran into the mechanic while he was drivingmy car into the garage. I told him my concern about changing the TPSsensor and what if it's not the problem. He then assured me thathe'll diagnose the problem and only change the sensor if it's theproblem. He asked me if I got a rental car. I said no, because it'sonly going to take 30 minutes. He said that it'll take him about 3hours. He later talked with the service person and they got me a car.The next day, I got my car back and later that night the check enginelight came on again!I called the service manager to complain. I told him that I didn'tlike how the service person was not up front with me. He told me thatI probably misunderstood what he was saying.
LEXUS CAR PARTS : I'm taking the car back to see what the check engine code is, but Isuspect that it's going to be the same code. They probably changed aTPS sensor that was not broken. I just don't know how I can prove it.I would say that the mechanic (versus the service rep) was correct. It soundslike the code found indicated trouble in the TPS area (note: TPS area, notnecessarily the TPS). Once the code is found, the technicial is supposed todiagnose what specifically in the area is not working, using a set ofdirections typically found in the repair manual. The service rep sounds as if he prematurely concluded that a TPS code indicatesthat the TPS is bad, which didn't seem to be the case in your situation, sincethe light came on again.
LEXUS CAR PARTS : I would suspect that once the true problem is found, they should give you anadjustment for the TPS replacement that didn't need to be done.470 bucks for a throttle position sensor? Theysaid that the code is now for the EGR Valve. The EGR system hascarbon build-up and needs to be cleaned. When I aske how much itwould cost, they said it would take hours and it would cost about$500!I couldn't believe it ... I told them that I don't want it fixed, andI'm about to pickup the car today.I'll bring it to another mechanic. One that's recommended and seewhat they say.
