JAPANESE CAR PARTS : yeah, I wouldn't wanmt to actually have to drive a Mercedes Diesel (I think supposedly they are getting better about that whole thing doesn't accelerate at all thing).Actually, the parts for my BMW aren't much more if not the same and sometimes cheaper than my Nissan Pathfinder's was. That though is because I know where to look and I can get my roommate to fix my car. If I had to go to the dealer to get parts or fixed, I couldn't afford it. I had an old 1973 Porsche when I was in college and I afforded that because my dad used to own a mechanic shop (he is retired now and lives in Atlanta. Only reason I finally agreed to sell the thing si I moved to Seattle where he cannot fix my car).I think today Japanese car parts are not all that cheap even compared to German car parts.
JAPANESE CAR PARTS : I think I'd prefer Civic myself. Heard some bad Toyota stories (that and HOnda though a little overpriced is no where near as overpriced as Toyoat seems to make their cars). My roommate's mom bought a Camry no longer than a year ago and I think she already had to have the transmission worked on. Heh,never was big on the MIata's looks though I have to admit I think I like the new model Miata a lot (they didn't do a big change, some subtle stuff, but it really improves the looks). Apparently very well built and fun to drive cars though. I myself would want an NSX if we are talking Japanese sports cars but that is *way* above my budget (when I have a budget of about 3000 for a car, evne the Miata is too expensive for me). JAPANESE CAR PARTS : I've had Toyotas Corollas since '84 - they are incredibly reliable. Afriend has had Camrys for about as long; same experience. I keep each onefor about 6 years, sometimes 7 - just before its resale/trade-in valuestarts to go down too much, so that I have a decent down-payment on the nextone. (Hondas are most likely just as dependable, I just personally preferthe Toyotas' designs; have always looked at both.)--"Staccato signals of constant information..."("The Boy in the Bubble") Paul SimonHeh, I'm different. I like Honda designs (specially some of the Acuras) over Toyota. A lot of Toyota designs (save the SUVs which I prefer TOyota over the little Honda has to offer) seem to "fluffy" for me. Hondas just look a lot more aggressive to me and less boring. Of course on design only I think I prefer Italian cars ;). JAPANESE CAR PARTS : I looked at Acuras only once - to satisfy my father, since he test droveone once & loved it, & kept insisting that I look into them. Yeah, it wasnice, but it was *way* more than I could afford.--"Staccato signals of constant information..."("The Boy in the Bubble") Paul SimonHeh, well I respect them same reason I respect BMW, they seem to want to put some sportiness into their luxury vehicles. Being som eone who doesn't really like the luxury car look and tends to like sportier cars it's a nice compromise. I think Lexus/Toyota tends to go for people wanting just good grocery getters or the total luxury look. Admitted I think I saw a Lexus or maybe it was an INfinity recently that I liked the looks of, but it's a new model. Looks like they are just starting to integrate the sportier look into their cars. Honda/Acura tended to focus more no performance/fun to drive from the get go. One reason I like the Civic, you see so many at slaloms cause they are easily modded to get some decent performance for the price. Nothing that would rival a real sports car, but for an "econobox" pretty good. Course, Civics aren't really econoboxes anymore, nor much of any make Japanese. JAPANESE CAR PARTS : And let me add that I tend to be thinking of older designs when I think of these cars ccause very few new cars at all catch my attention. I like the older version Integras and even prefer older styled NSX's. I think just recently I've seen a few new cars that have caught my eye which surprised me cause it's been years that a new non-Porsche (and even so I don't like any 1998 + Porsches) has gotten me to actually like design.I can't really afford any new vehicles and tend to prefer going for used (and thoroughly looked over by some one who knows cars and what o look for) than new vehicles. Even if I could afford a new car I'd have to go for something a lot less than a car that would really make me happy (for example for the base price of a Civic I could find a decent old Porsche 911, Porsches being my favorite make of all cars). For 3400 I got an 18 year old BMW that is almost immaculate condition and only has 100k miles and has many more to go as long as I don't totally abuse it. And it is loaded and everything works. And for something like a BMW or a Porsche, 18 years isn't going to faze me as long as it checks out to have been well maintained and in good condition (and less than 200k+ miles. I'm sure many can last longer than that but 200k+ miles is where I draw my line).
