HYUNDAI CAR PARTS : That tail light is for a 1991 3 series, not a new one :-) The new 3 partsare about $350 - they are much more complicated. I'm just checking retail ona new Kia right now: The caepest is the Rio 1.5 with no options at $19,995.Hmmm... maybe I should start exporting German car parts to the US :-) WithOUr exchange rate being crap, it would be a lot easier :-).............Your experience in New Zealand is the exact opposite of what'sseen here in North America. Japanese & Korean OEM parts are much, much lessexpensive than those from any of the German car companies here in the US.I'm guessing that there are factors where you live that are artificiallyincreasing some of these prices (tariffs?). Maybe we're paying a lot morefor German parts here. I like BMW's and would enjoy having a 3 series forsure, but the maintenance & repair costs for late model BMWs, VWs, Porsches& MBs are much higher here compared to Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, etc.

HYUNDAI CAR PARTS : In article (Dwight J. Mishima) writes:Oh really? Give me some examples. I've heard stories to the contrary. It's strange seeing you here. I stopped reading soc.culture.koreanbeacuse of you and that Rikikya fellow. Is he still around? Apparentlyyou are.Generously given? Bullshit. Hyundai pays Mitsubishi for every darn bitof technology/parts/whatever they get. Mitsubishi refuses to giveHyundai the technology to build the engine (at least not completely) soevery Hyundai car manufactured requires parts made by Mitsubishi. AndMitsubishi gets to sell its piece-of-shit Debonair, rename it the"Grandeur" and sell it for outrageous prices in Korea (yes, even beforeKorean taxes). It's also a stripped down Debonair, so it's performance, etc., isn't even comparable to the Nissan Maxima, which I was told it wassupposed to compete against. That's really generous of Mitsubishi, eh?

HYUNDAI CAR PARTS : Wow, that's generous too. Competing against Hyundai for the americanmarket by marketing the Precis. Yup, oh so generous of Mitsubishi. Andthose damn Koreans, taking all that technology and money away fromMitsubishi. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves!Well, you know Korea's economy isn't exactly the strongest one. I mean,up until about 15 years ago, people were starving in Korea, so I figuremaybe we have a certain right to try and protect out own economy throughtaxes? And those taxes are going down anyway. The US complained toKorea, and so those taxes are supposed to be gone soon. Not as if Japan doesn't support such xenophobic and bigotted attitudesagainst Korea. And maybe we have a certain right to be a little wary? Imean, we shouldn't forget the fact that Japan had a little holocaust inKorea (and China) oh, about 50 years ago that hardly anyone knows about (sinceit was never publicized in the West as much as the Nazi concentrationcamps)? I mean, don't get me wrong or anything, but I've heard storiesfrom members of my own family who were tortured, saw friends beingkilled, etc. The horrors are numerous. Can you blame Korea for a littlebigotted attitude? Besides, it's not as if the Japanese aren't bigoted againstus. Why can't Koreans who were taken to Japan during WWII receivecitizenship even now? Until recently, all Koreans in Japan had to befingerprinted, and had to check in with the local police department everyso often. That's really non-bigotted and non-racial, eh? Maybe thosetypes of actions deserve some trade "sanctions"?No, that would be wrong. It would be bigotted to impose heavy taxes on a nation that required yournationals to be fingerprinted.

HYUNDAI CAR PARTS : I hear Samsung is releasing a car next year, or something. I wannaknow why? It would be the crappiest thing on Earth. Korean productsalready hav a bad name, y make it worse? Korean products, Korean food, Korean housing = shit Most other stuff = near shitSorry, but I don't think you can put Samsung in the same class as Hyundai. Fact is, this is a company that is making quality products. Their computer monitors are rated quite high, as well as some of their small appliances. In fact, Consumer Reports rates their microwave oven as the best in two different categories and their 31 inch TV as one of the two top TV's on the American market (as long as you use a cable box, because there seems to be a problem with the direct cable receiver). As I've said in this newsgroup before, I would not buy a Hyundai automobile right now. However, if Samsung produces a car similar in quality to their other products (and if the price is right), I would definitely consider buying one.

HYUNDAI CAR PARTS : Could you explain how this is so? I thought Samsung was paying shit load ofmoney to Nissan for its technology, and that is not the way to break thedependency.Samsung HASN'T broken the cycle yet, which is precisely why I noted thatit's not too late for the company to go theHyundai/Kia/Daewoo/Asia/Ssangyong route. Furthermore, "breaking the cycle"will not happen in one, swift move. If it happens, it's going to happenover a period of time, probably with Korean companies maufacturing the mostsophisticated parts of their cars in their own country rather thanimporting them from Japan, in order to keep the price of their cars fromrising any faster than they already are and keeping them competitive in themarkets where they are strongest. That's not going to happen without theborrowing of a lot of technology from Japan and, most likely, America andGermany as well. It would be nice if Koreans could simply work in theirindustrial compounds, ignorant of what the competition in Japan isdoing/has done, and develop their own, unique solutions to the problemsthat automakers and motorists face. However, it will most likely not happenthat way, for obvious reasons. Most of the major automakers sharetechnology these days, and most of them pay big bucks for it as well.I findit notable that Samsung is buying a shit load of technology, not a shitload of electronic distributors.
