GM CAR PARTS : GMBond will be made in Austin, where Hormel is based. Productionequipment is being installed and sales will begin "in the nearfuture," Johnson said.Traditionally, Johnson said, toxic chemicals have been used to bindsand to create molds. The sand they bind is not recyclable, and thispresents a "severe pollution problem," he said. GMBond is analternative to those chemicals."General Motors determined that Hormel Foods, with its pork and turkeyslaughtering operations, has the best access to raw materialsnecessary to produce GMBond," he said.Under the Hormel deal, Schreck said, GM's larger casting suppliers mayuse the GMBond approach.Richard Schreck, GM's principle research scientist, said the companydeveloped GMBond about 10 years ago. A few years later, it sought tooutsource the technology and chose Hormel to distribute the material.GM entered into a licensing agreement with Hormel in 1998.
GM CAR PARTS : It can regrow damaged and worn parts. It can reproduce so that you don't have to ever buy another.Parts may be eaten. It comes in your choice of animal/auto hybrids. It is fueled by hay or dog food, according to your choice of hybrid.Waste products are fertilizer. The downside is that, although able to heal itself to a certain degree, it'sgoing to be a bitch finding a veterinarian who is also an auto mechanic.Translation: "They are starting to use hide glue to hold the sandtogether."And not even new. New in the current application. SPECIFIC typemolding. But not new.Sitting here looking at the books that used to belong to myfather-in-law. Was a farmer. Later quit that and went into thefoundry business.Whole sections in his books covering the use of animal collagen tomake molds.Older technology. Certainly they could not achieve the tolerancesexpected these days. GM CAR PARTS : But an old idea and usage. Old, and pretty much not used even at thetime these books were printed.****By the way. I'm pretty sure all you ladies out there really DON'Twant to know just exactly where the ingredients with the fancychemical names, for your makeup, hair conditioner, etc ... comes from.I love my country ! It's the politicians I don'tlike or trust. Can you give us the *names* of these books. Don't tantalize us thisway. :-)%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% FBN Graphics prints specialties in small quantities at reasonable prices. Answer the design survey, and win a free prize.Appears to be an industry specific series of trainning books: GM CAR PARTS : We own a 2001 Jetta TDI (20K miles) and have been very happy with it'sperformance. Now that I'm slowly getting myself ready for anothervehicle purchase, I find myself hesitating to visit the VW dealer dueto the TDI's onerous timing belt replacement interval and the $3500replacement cost of a 4 speed automatic (our Jetta is manual). After replacing 2ea GM 4L60Es this year @ ~$1300ea (excludinginstallation), I'm reluctant to consider *any* vehicle lackingextensive parts availability at reasonable cost. Depreciation andparts costs seem to be a far more important indicator of lifecyclecosts - at present.High parts costs chased us away from Japanese vehicles 20 years ago(we once owned Hondas). While I feel that VW produces a far more solidvehicle than our old Hondas ..... it is inevitable that the VW's partconsumption will be significant. Accordingly, I would like to hearfrom long term VW owners as to the strategies they employ to reach the200K benchmark at minimum expense. GM CAR PARTS : Buy the longest extended warranty you can find! It doesn't matter what car, trunk, lawn mower, etc you own parts just aren't cheap anymore! Now for thegood news all 2002 TDI have longer timing belt replacement. think it's now80,000miles.buy parts from independent local or online dealers, you usually save atleast 30% off dealer prices and many times over 50% less, also many VWdealers charge excessive hours for inferior service, again find anindependent VW service mechanicI don't really know about the new vw's personally, but my friends have beenextremly happy with them. I never heard them complain about anything goingmajorly wrong. Some people I know that have early 90's VW's had to replacethings like heater cores or distributors (distributors @ like $300, but youdon't have a distributor on a tdi anywise) but that's after 10 years. Mycars (ranging from 70-81) are a lot older and don't really compare, but Ihave several 81 diesels and the most I have HAD to do was replace theinjector pump for $500 (which is only that expensive because they are hardto find). I buy almost everything from the dealer because I know it's theright part and they aren't THAT much more expensive than getting a cheapaftermarket part. My dealership here is great and they are the only ones Itrust to work on my cars. The only problem is they don't have many people towork on the OLD cars. If the new TDI is anything like my old diesels it willkeep you happy for a long time to come... inexpensively.
