FIBERGLASS CAR PARTS : ------======READ THE FAQs BEFORE YOU ASQs:======------ ------===\ /===------ -----===\ /===----- ----===\_____--= Spam me and die =--______/===----I've found it in a few places: AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, Wal-Mart, and a non-chain car parts store in town. I think I may have seen epoxy resin in Hungate's, but that is probably the most expensive place you could buy it. You should also look for body shop supply stores also, they carry these supplies.Well, you should check in your yellow pages for places that sell plastics andother composites. Around the Bay Area, CA, there's a chain of shops called TAPSPlastics and they sell tons of resin and 'glass. I think they have locationsnationwide too. Polyester (not petroleum) resin can be found in hardwarestores, whereas epoxy resin can't. The 'glass that is sold in most hardwarestores is also pretty heavy weight...possibly not pliable enough for smallprojects. Both epoxy and polyester resin aren't the greatest things in theworld for your health. The main difference between the two is that polyester isa lot easier to work with since you can mix in different amounts ofhardener/catalyst without much worry; you have more room for error. With epoxyresin, you gotta measure exact amounts of both parts and mix the hell out ofthem. Additionally, epoxy resin doesn't distort as much as polyester and it'smore resistant to the elements. For the first time doing lay-up, I'd suggestjust going to a hardware or auto parts store and buying a quart of polyesterresin (about 10 bucks), an extra tube of liquid hardener (about 2 bucks), andsome 'glass cloth (price depends on how much you get). Just mix up a few ouncesof resin at a time and get used to how it feels going on and how long it takesto kick/cure (this depends on how much hardener you put in).
FIBERGLASS CAR PARTS : Does anyone have a source for a reasonably priced cobra kit? Pleasee-mail me with your reponses. TIA.From: ()Subject: Re: AC Cobra Kits? They do a lot of export to Europe and I saw some of their cars at Iola last year. They use Mustang suspensionparts (front), 9" Ford rears on an all jig welded, very well designedframe. Standard engines are 5.0 liter, EFI Fords or what ever you want. All parts used are new not rebuilt. Being a small company, they will build as much or little as the customer desires. Worth a look. FIBERGLASS CAR PARTS : Hmmm marginally more expensive than the late model 'vette setup- mostly becauseit required 4 coil-overs. But you can purchase entire rebuilt setups, includingbrakes, for about $600. The rubber bushings should be replaced with nylon orurethane pieces to take some of the slop out of it tho. The performance is ok if you do the "bushings" thing to get rid of the slop. Being constructed of steel, it's just not as charismatic as the late modelaluminum pieces, plus the late model has the two forward links replacing thetrailing arm; built-in anti-squat. Well you can actually use wheels with less backspacing but in the front, you'll have made the steering feel much heavier and at both ends you'll bestressing the bearings quite a bit more than wheels with the standard corvetteoffset. However, in the rear it's actually advantageous to use wheels with abackspacing closer to the center than the 'vette wheels. They may havecompromised this for a better ride and easier wheel control offered by longerlinks.
