ECLIPSE CAR PARTS : Out of the cars listed, I would suggest the GSX. I've had experience with all3 of the cars and my impressions are as follows:3000GT SL: The "SL" part is basically abbreviated for "SLOW". The car isunderpowered, overweight, but would make a nice "driving" car if performancewasn't an aspect you were interested in. 3000GT VR4: Nice car....if you have the money/knowledge to maintain it. Out ofthe box performance is good. Like the SL, replacing sparkplugs is a not-so-funtask, as the upper runnners of the intake manifold must be taken off to replacethe rear 3. A heavy car once again, and if you want something affordable inthe maintainence dept., look elsewhere. Transmission parts are *NOT*available, the Getrag transmissions are notorious for problems. Crunch aSyncro? New $3000+ transmission. Bearing goes bad? New $3000+ transmission. Also, several other parts on the car are unable to be rebuilt. The carrierbearings on the rear driveshaft are not available. If the $60/each carrierbearings go bad (Eclipse pricing..almost the same thing), you replace the $1000driveshaft. Once again...good "out of the box" performance, but you pay forit.
ECLIPSE CAR PARTS : Hello all - I wanted to get some input from anyone else who owns anewer eclipse. I have a '96 RS 5-SPD / 4cyl, 18000K. I should start off by saying the car in general seems poorly built, extremely over-priced (compared to the Talon) and not worth a dealer'stime in fixing. I should also note that I bought this vehicle new. My problems began at 1700 miles, when I had to have my front rotorsturned due to warpage. To make a long story short, rotors had to beturned AGAIN at 4500 miles, front brake system replace at 9000 miles, and then rotors turned again at 13000 miles. They actually needturning again! The dealer accuses me of "driving and/or braking too hard". Myproblem with this statement is 1) I'm not 16 anymore, I drive fairly conservatively2) Is this car not marketed as a high-performance car? I would thinkit was built for hard driving. Needless to say, the dealer refuses to work on the brakes anylonger under warranty. They want $100 a pop to turn the rotors. Other problems. (Many of these were curiously reported by otherowners I had met in my area....Hmmmm....)* Paint on console and arm rest continuosly peeling. * Paint on wiper arms chips off* Hood mis-aligned* Ball-bearings dropping from passenger seat* Extreme fogging problem on windshield* Vibrations at high speeds (don't ask, it's vibrated from day one andI HAVE had the alignment/balancing checked)* Seat-adjustment lever crumbled ECLIPSE CAR PARTS : I know it may sound as if I take lousy care of this vehicle, butthe car is in immaculate condition, with the above exceptions. I'mreally at a lost as to how I ended up (other than stupidity) with sucha lemon. I have owned 3 other new cars, all driven past 50,000 miles, none with any problems. (Camaro, 2 Ford Rangers). Anyone with similiar problems? Got a match?jcfI have a '96 Talon ESi, just hit 40K miles (I assume you meant 18K?).Same problems here, although they didn't start quite as early as yours, around 10-15K I think. I gave up. My car shakes all over the place everytime I brake now, gotten used to it.Well, it hasn't gotten any better with the 97's either. I bought anew 97 Eclipse GS-T Spyder. My biggest complaint isn't that the caris a piece of s**t (which it is, in many respects) but that the dealerI bought it from is a worthless piece of s**t, moreso than the car.I've had problems I've taken it in six or seven times for, and thedealer STILL can't fix them. None of them are major, just minorthings, car parts loose, rattles, etc.... But when I say rattles, idon't mean little things. I mean RATTLES, as if someone's on my roofor on the side door banging away with drumsticks. I was moreimpressed with a 84 Fiero that I bought USED in fall of 91 that blew ahead gasket and cracked the head the day I bought it. That car cost meabout 6 grand in parts alone over a 2 year period, getting the partsat cost and doing the work myself (I was a mechanic at the time). Andfor me to say that that Fiero impressed me more than this Eclipse isreally astonishing if you knew all I went through with that darnedthing. About the only thing not replaced was the body panels andseats...Granted, I LOVE the car. It's a blast to drive, especially the turboconvertible. But that doesn't mean that EVERY time I get in it, I'mnot cussing up a storm at some point due to the extreme frustrationwith the poor quality and worse dealer support... ECLIPSE CAR PARTS : My sister bought a '97 Spyder (non-turbo) a few months back, and also hadproblems that needed attention more than once. Her rotors and calipersneeded to be replaced and her hood is also misaligned (only slightly). Notto mention things that the dealer did - back it up into a stone wall(repaint the entire rear end) and scratch up all 4 wheels when theyreplaced the brake system. Although she hasn't had problems with the workdone itself from the dealer, they are just hacks when it comes to caringfor the car. The dealer told her the new Eclipses are not built very well -they are just turning out way too many, and quality is suffering. I haveowned 2 Talons - a 1990 turbo and presently a 1995 AWD turbo, and I haven'thad any problems, except for normal wear and tear. My car just seems moresolid - the 95 still has no rattles after 2 1/2 years. I told her to gowith the Talon..........but she was more impressed with the looks of theEclipse. ECLIPSE CAR PARTS : I just bought a 97 Eagle Talon Tsi two weeks ago. Like you, my newcar suffered from severe vibration. I gave it back to the dealer forthree days so that they could fix the problem, but had onlydissapointing results. They said it was due to the car sitting for along period of time. They also said to give the car 1000 miles andthe vibration should go away. A couple days later, I took the car toSears and had the tires rebalanced and rotated. It helped a little, but not much. I then took the car to a Good Year shop and told themof my problem. They remounted the tires and the vibration went away.According to Good Year, the rims and tires have a high and low point. One of my wheels and tires was mounted high point to highpoint, causing the vibration. Now the problem is fixed, the car drives likeit is supposed. Hope this helps...
