DAEWOO CAR PARTS : As to the maintenance items, why are the dealers not buying most ofthem from the auto parts stores? With the exception of the cabin airfilter, and custom spark plug wires, I found every normal maintenanceitem at auto parts stores. The rotors for the brakes are available atleast from Midas as well. I also asked the service manager aboutparts problems, since they stock most of the maintenance items, theystill have enough to get them by for the short term, plus they alreadyhave alternate sources for a lot of the parts they may need. Theyhave started to compile a list of the ''same'' parts from othermanufactures as several of the parts Daewoo used were off the shelfparts. He said he already has a source for the alternators, waterpump rebuild kits, and a few other parts so far.
DAEWOO CAR PARTS : I don't know about where other people live, but the dealer I havedealings with has not had any problems at all. Could have somethingto do with the fact they sold 12 truckloads of Daewoo cars last month. Many of which came from other Daewoo dealers at substantial discountwhen they closed up.I asked him about the warranty status on the car as well. He did waythat so far it is still business as usual if I need any repairs. Hedid say that the owner has already made plans to cover the warrantyrepairs for the short term even if DMA and GM drop all warrantysupport on the cars. This was before it was in writing in the dealthat they would honor all warranty obligations.Am I worried? No. So far it has essentially been a trouble free carexcept for a few minor annoyance problems already mentioned. Have hadthe car almost one year now and am approaching 26K miles. For a$12,800 car it has been a deal. Since my plans for the car are alwaysto essentially take good car of the maintenance and throw it awayafter 6 years, I have to look at the low end.
DAEWOO CAR PARTS : I owned a couple of the ''more'' expensive Honda Accords and the like. They were the biggest money losers in the long run for myapplication. At 30K per year, keeping the car for usually 7 yearsputs 210K on it. I was hard pressed to get $1500 out of my $21,000Accord when it approached 200K in 97 (it really started to show rust). I still got $2000 out of my 97 Hyundai Elantra Wagon with almost 200Kmiles on it last year (It did not rust at all). Both cars needed veryfew repairs beyond recommended maintenance, in fact the actual dollarsspent on repairs and maintenance were almost the same. I simply planon throwing away any car I own when I am done with it and figure thatinto the cost of the car when I buy it. If I get anything at all outof it at the end it is a bonus.
