That on top of the AWD and it really makes for a sluggish car. I test drove an Impreza but seeing as I live and drive in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California I opted for a Legacy with the 2.2L engine nwhich has alot more power over the Impreza. It's smaller than the Legacy and about the only difference I found is that the L Legacy has 4-wheel disc brakes while the L Impreza appears to have drum and shoe brakes on the rear.Of course when you climb into the cars there are alot more differences. The legacy has a light in the glove box, an 80 watt stereo, map lights, etc. The Impreza only has a 40 watt stereo, and the L versions has no map lights and doesn't have a lighted glove box. About the only thing I miss is not having a light in the trunk like my Legacy has. Of course the Impreza cost less than my Legacy. ;-)
