CAR PARTS UK : Sorry, no can do.....I got a detention for talking in class.....I wouldn'tmind so much, but I was talking to myself at the time! ;-)(p.s. talking of soft drinks, anyone know where, if anywhere, you can stillget Tizer Ice? I'm on a mission to find some, but so far no luck!)I could begin with "guides and stems", but first I'd like to discussrods. How big should they be, and where do they go?The rod is the part that uses the up and down motion in the bore tocreate a rolling motion in the sump.Obviously, the length of the rod determines the length of the stroke;if your rod's too short, you can crank it 'till your blue in the face, but you won't get her started (though if your running rich, you mayget some blow-back); if your rod's too long, you may quickly stripthreads, but there's going to be some serious damage to the head - we're talking about big cracks, bent stems, and perhaps, even a brokenshaft! So size *really is* important. Now, each rod has a big end, and a little end; the little end isnearest to the head, and the big end is nearest to the bottom. (I'm sure I don't have to say that each rod should be thoroughly cleaned before insertion.)If your big end ever runs dry, you may notice some rumbling, or youmay get a slap - either way, you should stop immediately or you maysuffer a seizure. So remember, never go for a drive without checkingthe lubrication first.

CAR PARTS UK : Does anyone know of anyone who can acquire car parts cheaply in NorthWales, as I'm looking for a 2.5 V6 engine for my beloved and overworked'96 Ford Probe which has finally died after 140000 miles, I don't holdout much hope as the scrapyards I've tried nationally all want about1000 ukp. Many thanks in anticipationyeah, I realised what an idiot I was after posting it, never mind walking, Ipositivley ran into that pile didnt II did a bit of searching and found that quite a few "Probes" had "Mazda"engines, is this a possibility for you? also found this link, has one forunder £100, (cant be much use surely?)Dunno if you've looked (I haven't recently) but the Exchange & Mart have a lot of engine (and gearbox) rebuilders where most rebuilt engines cost under £600. It's perhaps more than you might like to be paying, but then you'd have what effectively is a new engine that you can run for another 140K miles.

CAR PARTS UK : Buying a "scrap" engine (no matter how cheap) can be a very risky business.Unlikely that there are any in North Wales, but I would be surprised if there wasn't at least one around Merseyside. If you can get someone to tow you, most of these outfits provide a 3-hour fitting service for about £70. Most even provide finance if you have the need.Serves you right for buying Ford. My Prairie went to 301,000 and still ranlike new - well, almost new. Started first pop but a little sluggish up thehills - only the bodywork killed it in the end.Just like to thank everyone for their advice, I know I didn't buy wiselywith Ford but when the Probe came out I was young and lusted after one,I thoroughly enjoyed it (even converted it to LPG), but think I'mprobably going to have to find another as even 600 seems expensive foran engine for a car that can be replaced for 1500 - never thought I'down 2 probes - well 1 and a half anyway. If any one hears of one forspares or repair, I'd be grateful. Many Thanks

CAR PARTS UK : An unusual problem: our dog has chewed the rear passenger seat beltbuckle on our 98 Berlingo Multispace (Original model, which means itwon't pass its MOT and the vehicle is off the road. Our dealer can't locate a new belt in the UK, and so far has beenunable to even get a delivery date for one from Citroen in France.Has any one got any ideas where/how I might get hold of one so we canget our car mobile again? I've tried various parts sites, but no-oneseems to do seat belts. If it's one of these vans-with-seats-fitted, you could always remove the seats *and* the belts, and present it for the MOT like that...Have you looked to see if you can fit an aftermarket one or one offanother Citroen down the local scrappy. Most manufacturers use thesame steering wheel, gearlever, pedals etc across the range so why nothave a look to see if the seatbelts are the same?

CAR PARTS UK : Stuart Sharp sniffed the heady air of theshed and in said.....Apart from a few weirdies, there are only three main sorts of seat-beltfitting in use. There's the one with a rectangular slot (called K12),arrow headed ones (called...arrowhead!) and mushroom head,(called...wait for it....mushroomhead!)Provided the length's right, just about any part of a scrappy will fitif you choose the right flavour.Failing that, there's a firm in Kingsbury, North-west London called"Quickfit", absolutely nothing to do with KwikFit...run by the Quickfamily and predating KwikFit by ages, who will make belts to fit justabout anything. They're realistically priced and in the phone book.I was thinking that if the webbing has been chewed (I doubt that thedog has actually chewed through the buckle :-) ), he may need toreplace the whole assembly, including the inertia reel, which may notbe the same fitting in every make of car. I'm assuming that it is thebuckle that we're talking about and not the socket that it plugs into.
