Very few. Maybe in performance parts it is applicable, but notin OEMYou had better double check that valve cover gasket set, is that a pre 86305? The parts catalogs and computer systems are designed to stop the idiotcustomer from getting the wrong parts and returning them.Exactly as does GM. And it is so painfully obvious why GM cannot classifyengines as SB and BB for OEM purposes. could you see in the court room now,someone puts a SBC 400 in a stock 82 Berlinetta drives 100 miles per hourand the axle snaps and the driver gets badly hurt.

The parts person will try and sell you an OEMreplacement part, not just any SBC part.Maybe you know exactly what parts you need, but there are many people outthere like Mr Floppy who have no clue and just buy what they hear is a hotitem to buy and end up destroying their car.Maybe one from 71 or so this way you can never find parts for your firebird.

CAR PARTS CATALOGS : The fuel gauge on our 1964 MGB roadster has been faulty for months now.Anyway, it was driven this afternoon and ran out of gas. It was left by theroad for a few hours. When I finally got to it with two canisters of gasand filled it up, it had difficulty starting. And when it finally did, theidle was very poor, stuttered badly and stalled repeatedly. As theaccelerator was pumped and revved, the RPM pick- up was irratic. And whenthe RPM was kept high, the car backfired... sometimes severely and sometimesslightly.This has never happened before, although the cylinder head cracked once andthe symptoms were pretty much the same. Anyway, the car was driven about20km home, left to cool down and restarted. Same symptoms - Poor starting(needs gassing), poor idle - threatening to stall, and slight to heavybackfiring when forced to keep RPM up.
CAR PARTS CATALOGS : b. oil in carb - the oil level seems a little too high and could've beenforced back into the carburetorYou may have had some water in the bottom of the tank which got suckedinto the carbs when you ran out. You may also have picked up some rustand debris if you don't have an inline fuel filter. If you have one,change it and add a can of Gas dryer to the tank. If no filter you willprobably have to take the carb(s) apart and clean it(them).Smell the oil and see if it smells like gas or looks like it has waterin it. Check the water for signs of oil. I'm still worried about theheadgasket from all that overheating.I never worked on an MG but on my Spitfire the gauges didn't work and itwas the Instrument Voltage Regulator. It's a little box which in mycase was mounted on the firewall behind the speedometer. Takes in raw
