CAR PART USED : Have flying cars been made and flown before? Yes! Did they cost a lot todevelop? No! Flying cars have been conceived as long as there have beencars and planes. They just have not been very successful, both as to theirintended dual function and marketwise. They could not have been that costlyto develop because the various projects were labors of love by individualsor small groups. All the money ever spent on flying cars in 100 years ofdreaming cannot equal even 1% of Ford's $6,000,000,000 (!) budget fordeveloping the Mondero/Contour/Mystique. Imagine all that money Ford spentto "reinvent" the lowly Terraplane. Why don't you stop a moment and readabout an actual flying car:The fact that flying car prototypes were ever realized at all is a tributeto the efforts of their inventors. I believe they were not fullysuccessful because of the limited resources applied in the face of theenormity of the project. All the developers were aviation people (withlittle money) trying to do a car; never have car people tried to do aplane. I think that is half the secret: Chrysler has to develp aconsortium of experts in both fields of engineering to do it right. At thepresent time they have neither.

I estimate theworld wide market is 10,000 units per year at $100,000 per copy, for abillion dollars a year gross sales. Not bad for a top of the line flagship- most auto company flagships never turn a profit. The customer base wouldbe civil and military government bodies (police, administrative, armedforces) and the civilian aviation market now dominated by Cessna with ahandful of smaller players. Think of a flying car as sort of an ultimatestatus symbol. You now think of the Cadillac Escalade or maybe a top ofthe line M-B, Jag, or exotic like a Ferrari as the ultimate roadboundFord Motor Company has tried this twice. First in the 1950's and theFAA/Civil Aeronautics Administration shot it down due to it not beingpossible for the then air traffic control system to absorb all of theadditionalvolume of air traffic. Second was in 1970 and they even got FAA approvalfor the _experimental_ device, the Aerocar, but FAA nixed approvalfor production volumes as they were shitting bricks imagining all of thecrashes and accidents.

The thing that would scare me is that there are so manymore things to worry about in a plane than there are in a car. Atleast when a drunk driver speeds through my neighborhood, I don't haveto worry about him crashing into my roof.
CAR PART USED : Ok, thanks for all the opinions I've received about purchasing this car.Firstly, I am living in Scotland. The car is in a garage (MV Turbos) forsales. I'm not travelling hundreds of miles to buy a car. I know I couldget the best deal that way but I will not do it. So that knocks out a lotof vehicles for me. I won't be buying in a layby either.Secondly, yes I understand people will suggest other things but people havetheir own opinions otherwise we would all be driving around in the same car.Thirdly, the car has done 110,000 miles but has never been modified. Thegarage has every receipt and MOT certificate the car has ever had. Therehas only been two owners and IIRC the last owner had it for the majority ofit's lifespan thus far.
CAR PART USED : Surely, these facts make it sound like reasonable value as it sounds like aminter. I've not seen it yet and may choose not to upon inspection of it.I mean there is one for sale just up the road for about 800 which has doneabout the same miles but has mods like dump valve, lowered suspension,different exhaust etc, oh and it's ford red Yuck. This one is that lovelymetallic grey colour. In the majority of these types of cars the mods arebadly done and lead to premature retirement. However a standard car wouldhave been driven no harder than the standard parts allow.
