CAR PART DEALERS : In answer to your subject line, in most places cars are delivered from thefactory or port to the dealers by truck - one of the major sources of nicksand paint damage BTW. If the dealer is going to "locate" one for you itmeans a "neighboring dealer" could have one who could be >100 miles awayand the car will be "transferred" by being driven. You must have seen newcars being driven on the freeway at 80-90mph with temporary dealer plates. My experiences with dealer transfers have not been good. In one case thecar had been a show-room model and had plastic pieces broken inside: theashtray had been glued back together, the plastic underdash cover wasbroken, a trap-door over the fuse box was missing. It took me a couple ofweeks to realize that there should have been a trap-door covering thefusebox. Even after getting things remedied and even though the car wasfine afterwards the whole thing left a sour taste - kinda gnawed at meuntil I got rid of the car.
CAR PART DEALERS : In another case the interior color was wrong - I'd asked for blue and thesalesman had assured me he could get one. When I went to pick it up it wasgrey - not a big deal but the salesman obviously knew this beforehand andjust lied. When I said: "but this interior is grey" he just shrugged:"can't get blue". He also assured me that for the 120mile trip from theother dealer where he "picked it up personally" he had not exceeded70mph... yeah right - do me another favor!:-) This same salesman had thebloody nerve to call me a few weeks later really pissed that I hadn't givenhim an Excellent score in every category of the survey questionaire..."after all the trouble he went to" for me.Well the Honda electronic odometers are a pest in that regard, in that theyare turned off with the ignition so you can't see the mileage just bypeering in through the driver's window in the lot. The minimum mileageyou'll see on a new car seems to depend on the dealer location and deliverymethod from the point of origin but the lowest I've seen is 7miles. CAR PART DEALERS : It seems reasonable that the dealer mechanic will want to drive the car upthe road a bit to make sure that there are no obvious problems so 10milesseems like a fair limit to me. When I made the deal for our last newpurchase, a 2K Accord, I told the salesman, at the time of signing, I do*not* want anyone driving that car when it arrives other than to give it amechanical check. He agreed and the car had 8.5 miles on it when we pickedit up. Anything else and they could use your new car as a demonstrator orshopping buggy before you get to the pick-up.My advice: the most satisfying buyer experience has been when I've beenpatient, stood my ground for what I want, refused dealer transfers - tellthem to add it to their order book - and let them be quite clear that I'm alooney about the newness of my "new car".:-) When the car arrives and yougo to pick it up, do not part with your $$ until you've inspected it insideand outside. Do not be embarrassed about this - act like it's part of yourbuying "experience". You'll find that people from the dealership -business mgr, other salesmen - will act surprised by this - have a fewjokes about them ready for when they make fun of your "fetish" - they'reused to dealing with sheep... but they really do need your money. CAR PART DEALERS : My main concern is protection from hail damage. Any advise on what type ofcover and a reliable vendor would be great.I would say a garage, or a carport.Car covers are made of fabric, in the case of hail, it's like someonethrowing rocks at your car, it won't be able to protect it from much by wayof impact.Probabaly the thicker the better...I use a car cover on Shug, but it's a little lightweight nylon one just tokeep the sun off, no hail here in CA.You might try calling California Car Cover @ 1-800-423-5525. They have the"Stormweave" cover that protects against light hail. But that's prettymuch the limit. I don't believe any manufacturer makes a cover guaranteedto prevent against large hail damage. If you find one, let us know...I would suggest one made of metal or other sturdy material. Like a garage or carport. A carcover is nothing but a layer of cloth over your car to protect it from rain, snow and sun. It will not protect your car from hail very well. CAR PART DEALERS : I bought a Budgie car cover at the local Wally World a while back for my previous car and it fits the Mustang just fine. As long as you remove the antenna. It's either a Budgie group 2 or 3, check the box, it lists Mustang. If you can't remove your antenna, like me who JBWelded it after some dipshit broke it off, you'll have to cut a little hole in the cover and gleu one of those cloth rings around it for support. Have your sweetie do what I did.put your cover on with the antenna off, adjust it to where you want it tofit, mark the spot then with a piece of reenforcing fabric underneath, sew a1.5" "button hole" that runs front to back on the car where the antennagoes.. then it will not only help hold the cover on, you don't have to keeptaking it off.
