CAR BODY PARTS : No flames from this quarter. If I want to put the most rounds closestto COM or on multiple targets in the shortest time, I do my best workwith a hi cap 9mm. If I want more power, but a smaller mag capacityand marginally slower shot cadence, I want the .45. If I want maximumpower and range, I'll opt for a magnum revolver, preferably with a 6inch tube. Once you have these options in your gun safe, the .40option becomes extraneous. Nice to know there are a few otherstick-in-the-muds out there.I will grant that there is nothing "wrong" with the .40 and if I werein law enforcement I'd opt for the .40 over the 9mm. (.45 ACP being alittle too much of a stretch in most departments). It's just thatwith multiple choices of already overlapping capabilities, I can'tshoehorn the .40 into the mix.
CAR BODY PARTS : As for ammo, I've found cheap 9mm takes a lot of the "fun" out ofquantitity reloading sessions and the hotrodded +P 9mm loads seem tohave a respectable track record, given solid hits.WRT ammo effectiveness, a husband & wife team of E.R. docs at oneclass I attended wre of the opinion that "one handgun bullet tracklooks pretty much like the other." Also "The effectiveness of ballammo is underrated." My daughter attended her share of autopsies as acrime scene detective. She agrees with the E.R. docs. With oneexception. She did remark that .357 JHP is "very, very adequate."---------------------------------------- -------------------Learn about rec.guns at Rec.guns supports Marylanders for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership!Shoot the best, forget the rest. Maybe someone should just write a stock reply that takes all ofthe standard arguments, counterarguments, etc.., and put them in theform of a conversation / "faux argument" between two or more peoplethat can be posted as a standard reply to these messages. ---------------------------------------- -------------------Learn about rec.guns at ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- -------------------Learn about rec.guns at Rec.guns supports Marylanders for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership!Shoot the best, forget the rest. Click ---------------------------------------- ------------------- CAR BODY PARTS : This is not an opinion just a recollection. Many years ago when we wouldhead off to the local dump for some rat control shooting we came acrosssome old car body parts. If memory serves me correctly I had my Inglis HiPower and a buddy of mine had his dads Colt Government 45acp.We bothcommenced to firing on the car parts with ball ammo at an average of 40or so feet, while his 45 was putting large 4"dents in the doors / fendermy 9mm was driving holes clean through them. Also due to recovery timefrom recoil I was able to get off two rounds to his one.By far not ascientific test and I'm sure if the object was a human his big bore 45would of demolished it like a base ball bat with one round to the chestwhile the 9 may take two or maybe three but I always thought what if youhad to stop someone that was in a car or behind similar cover. CAR BODY PARTS : I think the .40 or even the 10mm just gives us two more choices and Iwouldn't hesitate to grab any one of four if an emergency shouldarise.Personally I would like to see a modern day revamped semi compact357 auto loader with a staggered 8 or 10 round mag.The .357sig for oneis very interesting. #From what I have read over the years from some reputable experts,It's acool head and bullet placement not caliber or speed that gets the jobdone. It makes some sense to me because if power alone made thedifference we would be all carrying .454's or 500's in big rig shoulderholsters.---------------------------------------- -------------------Learn about rec.guns at Rec.guns supports Marylanders for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership!Shoot the best, forget the rest.
