BUY CAR PARTS : Car customizing:----------------There are actually a few different ways to buy a car inMotor City Online. You can go to one of the car shops and buya car that falls within your price range, which will be verylow at the beginning of the game. Buying a shop car is quickand easy. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, youcan try to buy a car from one of the auction lots. Wheneveryou enter an auction area, the lower portion of the main screenchanges and displays the people bidding, the number of bids, howmuch time is left on the auction, and other details. Like inother auctions, some players will try to outbid you in theclosing moments, so it's a good idea to keep a close watchover the auction screens. There's one special auction house in Motor City Online namedRighteous Rides, which will occasionally auction rare cars thatare available no where else in the game. It's also possible, and necessary, to buy car parts at some of these stores orauction houses. With sixty base car models and over a thousandinterchangeable car parts, there are endless combinations ofcustom built cars, that you can race or own in MCO.One way to get parts other than buying them specifically is tobuy a car, strip one really good item from it that you want, andsell off the rest as scrap .There are five categories of cars, including common, uncommon, rare, very rare. You can customize them by painting the body, swapping out various rods and parts, EA is working on a systemwhere you can make and upload your own skins to use.Player-created skins will be submitted to EA, which will reviewthem for any inappropriate content, and upload them to the serversif they pass muster. New cars, trucks, characters and race modeswill be added to the game periodically. BUY CAR PARTS : Probably depends on the model, but FWIW so far DH has had only one potentialproblem getting parts for his '81 Caddy. (He hasn't had a major enginerepair so I don't know if that would be different better or worse.) There'ssome problem with the power seat mechanism or motor, and when he had itrepaired last time the guy had to do some kind of workaround after beingunable to find even a salvaged replacement part. He's been cautioned to notmove the seat.Probably depends on the model, but FWIW so far DH has had only one potentialproblem getting parts for his '81 Caddy. Nice thing about a lot of the older VW's is whenthey made an improvement in a otherwise little changed car, the new versionoften fit the older cars. Models were not changed just to make your car"look" old. They are still making "Beetles" you just can't import themanymore. Or not without some illegal methods.I've seen usable model A's and model T's still on the road today. With enough money and effort it can last forever. Auto makers generally discontinue making parts within 10 years. Newparts may still be available for many years but they will come from existing stockpiles. For instance, to get a 1992 Festiva headlight retainer ring a couple of years ago Ford had to ship one of the fewremaining ones half-way across the country to me. Today they mighthave to ship it from another country entirely if any could be foundat all. BUY CAR PARTS : Used parts, from junkyards, may be available for a very long time. This only helps with parts that can last a long time. Fabric and plastic parts tend to self-destruct over time, especially when exposedto chemicals, heat and sunlight. In my example with the Festiva ringthis part was made of plastic and had to be replaced because it crumbled into dust. It's likely that any similar part from a junk yardwould also have crumbled into dust. Custom made replacement parts are available forever. They just cost alot of money. A 1981 chevy citation is only worth around $300 to $500 in the best ofcondition. Most folks wouldn't spend more to repair a car than it wouldcost to buy another (perfectly working) used car just like it.
