AFTERMARKET CAR PARTS : of course it's a matter of demand and supply, if your state/area hasnever had a VW dealer for example, then maybe there never have been muchold VW's around, and therefore no need for spare parts..? I have never had the need to hunt for whole distributors, so I can't sayhow easy it would be to find one from one of the "usual" aftermarket sources. But that may be the magic words, maybe yourcatalogs are from companies who specialize in aftermarket parts (I.E.Non-original). AFAIK, nobody makes aftermarket stock distributors. The first local VW parts source I just checked, carries the vacuum canat 13 USD a piece. I believe it is the later, smaller style, which iswhat is best for the 34mm carb. Even they have differences I think. Theonline parts catalog of the said source did not give any detailed data.Their web pages are only in finnish at the moment, so the URL is kindauseless for you.. Here goes anyway:

AFTERMARKET CAR PARTS : On Sun, 07 Sep 2003 13:06:52 -0700, Ryan Cousineau may have said: There are lots of consumer-level car shows, I will note, but these arenot even similar to a trade show. They're a combination of atravelling manufacturer exhibit, a local dealer display area, anenthusiast display area, and a retail vendor area. The latter'sbooths tend to be occupied primarily by snake-oil salesmen. It is notunknown to get those same snake-oil guys at trade shows, by the way,but they tend to have to modify their pitch *a lot*. On the other hand, trade shows for specialty and aftermarket car partsand repair equipment do exist, and as at Interbike, the public isn'tinvited...and in most cases, the public would have little of interestto see. Those tend to be aimed well over the heads of even the repairshops and parts stores. I haven't looked; are there any significant consumer-type bike shows,or is this subject just too rarefied for the mass market at thispoint? It requires a *lot* of traffic to cover the expense of a majorhall for several days, and it strikes me that in even a major city, there might not be enough interested bike enthusiasts to allow such anevent to make a profit.

AFTERMARKET CAR PARTS : Does anyone know what goes into changing 'O' rings? I've got a 92 Excelthat burns oil like a bitch when I start it up. It burns off after a bitbut..well..it's already cost me a catalytic converter (it melted the damnthing down and put my manifold into meltdown. =)Anyway...any comments would be a help...I'd like to keep the car if I couldbut....you know how it is =)Well after you remove the base pan, and the rod caps and the head,(To pushthe pistons up and out) you need to re ring the pistons. Then completlyreassemble and torque to specs. In other words it's alot of work and you will at least need a servicemanual. It will give you directions and torque specs. If you do not work on cars normally I'd take it somewhere you trust. Also are-ring is not always the answear. The block may also need to be cleaned upwith a slight bore."BlairC" wrote in message...

AFTERMARKET CAR PARTS : If its only smoking on startup you may just need valve stem seals, much lesswork than Mark suggests. Have someone look at it."Mark Curtis" wrote in message...I am not putting your car down, but they all smoke from old to new. I saw anew tiberon think I spelled it right with blue smoke come from the muffler.I think if you get it fixed it will only be a matter of a short time beforeits doing it again. "Just my 2 cents worth, not trying to be insulting."I'm gonna assume by "O" ring you mean Valve stem oil seals, and not pistonrings...if it burns off after a bit, odds are its the Valve stem oil seals, and not the piston rings....you could try some heavy oil treament until youget the cash to fix her, might stop it a bit if you get lucky, its a cheapfix, and worth a try...but if its the piston rings, your looking at a bigjob...Great little cars, but never seen one yet that I could actually drivebehind without choking !!..good luck

AFTERMARKET CAR PARTS : I checked out the local gunshow today and I'm not a happy camper. Almosteverything was $50-100 more than the last gun show, and things weren't cheapthen. I found only one that I was seriously interested in - a Springfield M1Garand for $650. The seller said it was all Springfield, but I suspected hewas lying so I checked the barrel and it had 'LMR' on it. It looked reallygood - the stock was perfect, the receiver was serial 367XXXX. There were noexternal markings on the buttplate or the trigger assembly. It looked likeit was well worth $650 as long as the barrel was good. Not knowing who LMRwas I passed until I could get home and look it up. Apparently it was LineManufacturing Company out of Birmingham who made them for InternationalHarvester from '53-56. That was good enough for me so I went back andsomeone with a wad of 100's in his pocket was buying it as I walked up.Damn! I was fuming. The guy that bought it never even took the plastic bandout of the receiver so he could check the barrel. I'll bet anything heshoots it exactly one time and puts in back in the closet never to see lightagain (it looked like the last owner did that as well).
