PARTS CAR : Good stuff (?)Engine turns by hand, as I said above the engine was replaced and there isno engine code on the case. So the engine didn't come out of another bug,right? Aftermarket case?Both front fenders are in very good condition, not original to the car butappeared to be German. Right rear fender is good. Both doors are good. Thetop clip was good and it didn't have the rust in the C pillars like I'veseen on lots of others.The interior was in fairly good shape. Front seats had no tears at all butthe springs were shot in the drivers seat. Many good parts on the dash.Still had the VW Sapphire radio. Everything in the interior looked to beoriginal with the exception of a cheap carpet kit.The VIN numbers on the dash and pan matched, so I'd guess that they've notbeen apart.Left front wheel is a good chromie, both right wheels and the spare are goodstock wheels.
PARTS CAR : I really just want the engine. I've never been into a VW engine and I'vebeen trying to find one to use to help me learn more about them. When it'stime for the next rebuild on mine, I want to give it a try and I'd like tohave a little practice under my belt. The owner wants to sell the whole car,not just the engine. Problem is, the owner of the bug is not around tonegotiate with directly, he is a friend of a guy I work with. The owner isin Wyoming and wants to go to Alaska for the summer. He has 2 or 3 carssitting on his property and the guy I work with is trying to sell them forhim for some money to help him get to Alaska. If he can't sell it to anindividual, the guy has told him to sell it to a boneyard. How much wouldthey give for one in that shape?
PARTS CAR : If anybody made it this far, what do you think it would be worth? I have anew baby on the way, so I don't want to spend too much. PARTS CAR : Thanks Lauren. I was thinking around $100 ... $125 at the very most. Ifigured $40-$50 for the engine, $10-$15 each for the good front fenders andmaybe $40-$45 for the good interior parts.Anyone else?You better save the hood.... it's a two year only hood ya know... after Ismashed mine I never did find another one that I was satisfied with. Thathood (if it's not dented up too bad or rusted through) is worth more thananything else on that car. I had someone offer me $100 for one of mine thathad some rust and bondo... you can't buy replacement metal hoods for themperiod. You can only get fiberglass and now carbon fiber (which is what I amgoingto get since I am not happy with my other hoods... and no they stillaren't for sale)
